K2P Case studies

Case studies – K2p intervention in education

Context
K2P interventions engage, challenge and improve the performance of individuals. These interventions were delivered with Pupil Premium students.

The K2P learning & development resource focuses on unlocking potential by developing core values and promoting key ‘soft skills’ which are essential to being successful in education and the workplace. These skills encompass an individual’s ability to listen well, communicate effectively, be positive, manage conflict, accept responsibility, show respect, build trust, work well with others, accept criticism, perform under pressure and be likable.

This K2P intervention took place with the following groups, including but not limited to:

  • KS2/3 Summer School & Social Skills groups (Year 7 Transition)
  • Support at Induction days
  • One to one mentoring based on attendance, achievement and behaviour
  • Support at ELO Clubs
  • Run and Read breakfast Club (access to core subjects)
  • Home visits

This programme and subsequent report focused on 3 key areas:

  • Attendance
  • Attitude to learning
  • Student Attainment

Outcomes

  • Student Attendance increased from 78% in July 2013 to 90% in July 2014 an increase of 12%
  • Attitudes to learning – the student group was rated at an average of level 3 (cause for concern) in the first term, by term 4 they were scoring 1.4 between Good and Excellent
  • Students showed improved progress and outcomes in all core subjects including maths, English Science and ICT


Case study – K2P intervention in helping people return to work

Context

The K2P learning & development resource focuses on unlocking potential by developing core values and promoting key ‘soft skills’ which are essential to being successful in the workplace. These skills encompass an individual’s ability to listen well, communicate effectively, be positive, manage conflict, accept responsibility, show respect, build trust, work well with others, accept criticism, work under pressure, be likable, and demonstrate good manners. 

This K2P intervention was delivered by TTC’s K2P in partnership with Staffline.

This trial programme was delivered to support a group of long-term unemployed people and help them get back into work.

This intervention focused on 3 key soft skill-sets that are vital to employees:

  • Communication and interpersonal skills
  • Working with others
  • Dealing with Challenge

Outcomes

  • 47% of respondents said they showed improvement in at least one of the 3 areas of: “Working with others”, “Dealing with Challenge” and “Communication”
  • 100% of respondents found the K2P course to be fun engaging and purposeful
  • 79% said that they have increased self-awareness through the course
  • 89% declared that they would refer to the K2P course in order to transfer their knowledge and skills to real life situations
